TENDER SDC/01/2021/2024 FOR SUPPLY AND DELIVERY OF PRISONERS’ AND TRAINEES’ FOODSTUFFS – NAIROBI REGION
Vaccination programs in Correctional facilities are among the measures taken to ensure the facilities are COVID-19 free.
Speaking in a breakfast show at Nation FM on Monday, State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Zeinab Hussein said 45% of the staff and inmates have been vaccinated in the facilities.
"Since last year we have been working closely with the Ministry of Health and we have put in several protocols in place to ensure we safeguard not only our inmate population but also our officers who work within the facilities," the PS said.
Restrictions of visitors in the facilities is also another measure the PS mentioned as an effective way to ensure the facilities are protected from the virus.
In addition, Isolation facilities have also been established and in case there is a suspected case, the entire cell is isolated and the inmates remain under treatment and are checked after 14 days and again after 21 days until they turn negative.
The PS also said strict COVID-19 protocols put in place by the Health Ministry including maintaining social distance, washing of hands, sanitising and wearing of masks are being observed.
Ms Zeinab has advised the general public to take precautions even if they have been vaccinated and also ensure they go for their second dose in case they had their first dose.
"I would urge everyone to continue taking the precautions as we did in March last year when the disease first came to the country," Ms Zeinab said.
She has also urged the public to ensure they stay away from political gatherings.
