COMMITTEE DEVELOPING INTEGRATED CORRECTIONAL MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM HOLDS SENSITIZATION MEETING

The state department for Correctional Services is in the process of digitizing its operations as it seeks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the country’s correctional services.

A committee tasked with developing and implementing an Integrated Correctional Management Information System (ICMIS) for those serving Custodial and non-custodial sentences is currently collecting views from stakeholders.

The committee, which is in its inception stage, this week held an engagement forum with all Directors drawn from the Kenya Prisons Service as they sought their views on the proposed shift that will introduce a range of digital technologies to deliver services and create new forms of surveillance and social controls.

While welcoming the planned digitalization of the state department, Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh said the proposed information systems will simplify the flow of information and records management functions within correctional facilities.

The system will integrate various aspects of correctional services management including but not limited to Offender Management, Case Management, Incident Reporting and Data Analytics.
