PS VISIT TO NAKURU GIRLS PROBATION HOSTEL

The State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Hon. Safina Kwekwe visited the Nakuru Girls Probation Hostel and encouraged the girls to be role models once they are reintegrated into society.

The Nakuru hostel at the moment accommodates young offenders from the age of 13-22 years for a period not exceeding one year and an extension is given upon a court order.

There are six probation hostels in the country which are :-

  • Shanzu Boys Probation Hostel in Mombasa which accommodates juveniles below 17 years of age
  • Nairobi Probation Hostel for males who are 17 years and above
  • Kimumu Junior Boys Probation Hostel in Eldoret for males under 17 years
  • Kimumu Senior Boys Probation Hostel in Eldoret for males who are 17 years and above
  • Siaya Probation Hostel for females with special needs both girls and women
  • Nakuru Girls Probation Hostels for females

MORE INMATES ENCOURAGED TO ENROLL IN FORMAL AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING

All correctional facilities around the country conduct formal and vocational training.

This helps them in their reformation in that when they are reintegrated in society, they can be even better through education and what they have gained.

Visiting Thika Main and Women prisons on 19th October 2022,

The State Department for Correctional Services Director of Education and Vocational Training Coordination Unit, Dr. Margaret Mutuma encouraged more inmates to enroll in the studies as she addressed them.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Correctional Services Hon. Safina Kwekwe visited Langata women’s Prison and Nairobi West Prison 11th October 2022.

During her visit, she gave words of encouragement to inmates adding that they should take advantage of the skills they are learning in the prisons and use their passion to achieve the best.

Kenya Prisons Service’s prowess in Nairobi Trade Fair

The Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) was awarded The Best Government Social Functions Stand during The Nairobi International Trade Fair on the 28th September 2022.

The event was graced by Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua who presented the awards to the winners.

Speaking during the event, the Deputy President praised how much agriculture has contributed to development of the country.

“Agriculture remains the backbone for industrial development, income generation and provision of raw materials for manufacturing,” he said.

Receiving the awards was the Commissioner General of Prisons Brg (Rtd) John Warioba who also received trophies for 2nd place The Most Striking Display (Demonstration of locally Manufactured Products) and also 3rd place, The Stand that best Interprets Current Show Theme (Government stand).
