President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the 25th Kenya Prisons Service Cadet pass out parade of 159 Cadet Officers at the Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru.
The Officers have graduated after 13 Months training which had 6 months practical and 7 months class work and field instructions.
The training include Management Practices in Prisons, Prisons Administration, Safety and Security Management in Prisons, Treatment of offenders, Treatment of Youthful Offenders, Terrorism and Countering Violent Extremism, Dynamic Security, Standard Minimum rules, Financial Management, Procurement Laws relating to Prisons, Gender and Corrections, Drills, Weaponry, Endurance (physical training), Field Craft and Tactics, Self-defense, Basic Combat Skills and a leadership course.
His Excellency also launched a Water Bottling plant at the College which will see Government agencies and departments get their drinking water from Prisons service.
The Bottling Plant is part of the State Department for Correctional Services @CorrectionalKE reforms in the Kenya Prisons which adds value to the realization of the Big 4 Agenda.
The Department has also contributed alot towards the realization of the Big 4 Food Security agenda which include:
-Maize production in Naivasha Prisons
-Rice production in Mwea Prisons
-Tea production at Kericho and Uruku Prisons
-Vegetable production at Embu and Ruiru Prisons
-Sunflower production at Kisumu and Kibos Prisons
-Hay production in Ngeria and Shikusa.
The Officers who have just graduated will add value to these reforms and ensure that they have participated on building these reforms at greater heights.
The president also lifted the ban on visitations to the Correctional facilities with strict supervision. The inmates in the facilities had been banned from visitations from family and friends due to COVID-19.
So far, 90% of inmates and 80% of Prison staff have been vaccinated against COVID-19 since the mass vaccination exercise in the Correctional facilities had been launched.
