The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i presided over the launch of the Childcare policy for the care of children of incarcerated mothers.

On the same occasion, he also graced the unveiling of the Rapid Results Initiative phase 1 which took place on Wednesday 27th July 2022 at the Prisons Staff Training College, Ruiru.

The Rapid Results Initiative is a program that took 100 days from 25th January 2022 to 6th July 2022 guided by five thematic areas which are improved operations and service delivery, enhancing the welfare of staff and inmates, fast-tracking implementation of development projects, strengthening collaboration with stakeholders and development partners and revamping the prison enterprise.

Three decentralized treatment facilities in three prisons are expected to be completed before the end of this financial year 2022/2023.

The sewer treatment project will improve on sanitation through waste water management once they are complete.

The three prisons are Shimo la Tewa prison in Mombasa, Kisumu Maximum and

Kibos prisons in Kisumu.

The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government Chief Administrative Secretary Winnie Guchu had a tour visit of the Shimo la Tewa prisons to inspect the area where the decentralized treatment system is expected to be set.

She was accompanied by the Commissioner General of Prisons Brg (Rtd) John

Warioba and other officers on the 18th July 2022.

The State Department for Correctional Services bagged an award for the Most Outstanding Pavilion during the    African Public Service Day celebrations.

The event run from the 21st-23rd June 2022 with a theme: Celebrating Public Service Transformation: Ten Years Journey and Beyond.

More than 130 exhibitors got to showcase their different exhibits from different Ministries, Departments and agencies.

The first woman Commandant of Prison Staff Training College, Wanini Kireri Senior Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons (SACGP) was laid to rest at her home in Daiga in Nanyuki on 9th June 2022.

These is after a short illness where it took her life on 31st May, 2022 at a hospital while undergoing treatment.

During her funeral, Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr. Fred Matiang’i directed a building at PSTC, be named after Madam Kireri to honor her.

In President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tribute read by the CS, he described her as an epitome of hard work.
