The State Department for Correctional Services is working on a plan that will see offenders coming out of correctional facilities acquire certificates of good conduct.

Speaking at the Nairobi West Prison during a mass service, State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome M-Beacco said the clearances will aid in making the lives of reformed inmates easier by ensuring they get jobs to sustain themselves and their families.

“We are working with the judiciary, ODPP and DCI to ensure reformed and rehabilitated offenders get certificates of good conduct,” she said.

She thanked the chaplaincy within Correctional institutions for collaborating to ensure the inmates are reformed through spiritual nourishment.

“We are happy that the chaplaincy is doing a good job all for the purposes of rehabilitating offenders," she observed.

The PS also encouraged inmates to remain optimistic and look at the bright future ahead while they focus on complete reformation.
This even as she urged staff at the department to dedicate their energies for the common good.
