SDCS STAFF PLANT OVER 1,000 TREES AT KAMITI MEDIUM PRISON
By Nicholas Kigondu
Staff at the State Department for Correctional Services were on Thursday engaged in a tree planting exercise at the Kamiti Medium Prison.
The Exercise, spearheaded by the education and vocational training coordination unit, saw over 1,000 seedlings planted as part of the department’s tree planting and growing agenda in line with the national tree growing and landscape restoration campaign as championed by President William Ruto.
State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco has already launched a monthly tree planting campaign, dedicating every first Thursday of the month towards planting of trees within correctional facilities across the country.
As part of efforts to achieve the 15 billion trees target by 2032, the department plans to generate 100 million seedlings annually within its facilities to mitigate the effects of climate change.
