CORRECTIONAL SERVICES PS ROOTS FOR PARTNERSHIPS IN ONGOING REFORMS

State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco has underscored the critical role of partnerships in ongoing reforms targeting correctional institutions.

Speaking at her office during a meeting with representatives from Justice Defenders, an organization that provide legal services and education to communities in conflict with the law, the PS said targeted collaborations have been identified as key ingredients in the realization of envisaged reforms in the country’s correctional services.

She said her office has prioritized accountability and transparency in its operations with the ongoing digitization of processes at the state department expected to enhance integrity and efficiency.

According to Alexander McLean, the Founder and CEO of Justice Defenders, his organization remains committed to support the department realize its aspirations with plans to expand its services across all correctional facilities in the country.

The organization currently operates in Nairobi (remand, medium, &Langata prison), Kamiti, Thika, Kiambu, Machakos, Nakuru, Naivasha, Murang’a and Nyeri.

Twenty-nine beneficiaries, comprising of 12 prison officers, eleven inmates and six ex-inmates, are set to graduate with bachelor of law degrees from the university of London on the 26th of this month while ten others, comprising of six prison officers, three inmates and a staff who is a former inmate, will acquire certificates from Strathmore college.
