By Nicholas Kigondu
Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco has challenged senior staff at the department to enhance commitment at the work place.
Speaking during a meeting with heads of units at the department, the PS said there was need to develop a legacy of commitment among public servants for the common good.
“Let us look inwardly and ask ourselves whether we can be singled out for our commitment to excellence. It is for the greater good of the society.” Observed the PS.
While lauding the team for their dedication to service, the PS said the department remains committed to realizing envisaged reforms that include improving the welfare of both staff and offenders.
The PS has initiated a host of reforms targeted at the country’s correctional system aimed at shifting it from a purely punitive approach to one focused on rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society. The plan also seek to expand prison farms and workshops to improve food security, create jobs, and enhance self-sufficiency within correctional facilities.
