CORRECTIONAL SERVICES PS HOLDS MEETING WITH INTERMINISTERIAL COMMITTEE ON LAND
By Nicholas Kigondu
The State Department for Correctional Services is accelerating the process of acquiring official title deeds for its land across the country as well as securing land targeted grabbers.
Speaking during a meeting with an inter-ministerial committee dealing with land issues within the department, the PS said the department has managed to process several titles for its facilities while survey and documentation process is underway across other vulnerable properties.
The ongoing efforts include the implementation of Presidential Directives on freeing up prison land in select towns for the Affordable Housing Programme, fast-tracking the utilization of underutilized prison land to boost food production and enhanced commercialization of prison industries.
According to the PS, the efforts are part of strategies meant to effectively implement the department’s priorities targeted at transforming correctional facilities into environments that prioritize economic viability, skill development and rehabilitation.
