PS BEACCO: MODERNIZATION OF PRISONS ENTERPRISE IS ON COURSE

Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco says modernization of the Prisons enterprise is on course with the development of the Enterprise Resource Planning system as well as the review of its legal framework.
Speaking at the 12th meeting of the Subcommittee of the National Development Implementation Committee convened to review progress on Presidential Directives and flagship reforms in governance, security, digitization, and regional cooperation, the PS said the envisaged reforms will transform the current Prisons Industries and Farms Funds into a sustainable and productive entity that effectively contributes to both the national economy and the rehabilitation of its inmates.
“The Draft Prison Enterprise Fund Regulations, 2025 proposes, among others, the merging and expanding the scope of industries and farms to new sectors like agribusiness and ICT-based products, and revising policies for revenue retention and reinvestment.” She observed.
She said review of the proposed legislation is currently in the public participation stage with consultations involving various stakeholders.
Internal Security Principal Secretary and chair of the sub-committee Dr. Raymond Omollo described the session as an opportunity for self-assessment and reinforcing the commitment to efficient and effective service delivery for the people of Kenya.
