State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr Salome Beacco Tuesday officially opened a 3-day induction workshop for Probation and Aftercare Service senior managers at the Nakuru Girls Probation Hostels.

The officers were recently promoted to different management positions and deployed to different Probation Stations across the country

According to the PS, the promotions are aligned with the Public Service Commission career progression regulations.

"This is part of career progression approved by PSC which helped these officers to be promoted to the positions of Directors and Deputy Directors," she said.

The PS said the induction is part of empowering the officers become better leaders even as she challenged them to go beyond the call of duty for effective service delivery for the common good.

“Let’s be good shepherds and prudent in our duty. Let’s give the best that we can,” she implored.

The PS said she remains committed to spearheading envisaged reforms meant to catapult the department into a correctional service of excellence.

The Nakuru Girls Probation Hostel is currently housing 43 girls aged between 14-17 years and who are undertaking formal education and vocational training in addition to continuous counselling as a way of rehabilitating and reforming them for successful reintegration back to the society.  Currently, 55,000 offenders are serving non-custodial sentences under Probation and Aftercare Service.

In her address to the officers, she emphasized on the importance of upholding integrity, accountability, pro-activeness, transparency and collaboration while exercising their duties.

"As senior management of PACS, you are entrusted with upholding national values, advancing the government BETA agenda and championing the principles of governance, all while serving the most vulnerable members of the community," she observed.
