BY PILI CHIMERAH
Decongestion, clearance of pending bills, staff housing, envisaged reforms and prudent utilization of resources characterized discussions during a meeting between Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco and the Kenya Prisons Service leadership.
In the meeting, held at the Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru and attended by the Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh, the PS engaged Kenya Prisons Service Directors, Regional Commanders and Officers in Charge to reflect on last year's achievements and chat the way forward as reforms targeting correctional services gather pace.
This year, the department is focusing on the modernization and mechanization of prison farms and industries, institutional security, infrastructure improvement, logistical enhancement, strengthening of partnerships, completion of stalled projects, enhancing rehabilitation programs, and improving ICT infrastructure among other projects which will aid in the realization of envisaged reforms.
The PS appreciated the senior officers for going beyond the call of duty to ensure the dream of realizing a correctional service of excellence remains feasible even as she challenged the officers to intensify efforts aimed at ensuring that the vision becomes a reality.
"The start of a New Year offers us a chance to reflect on our successes and confront prospective challenges that lie ahead with clarity and resolve. This year, we are called to recalibrate, refine, and elevate our operations as Officers-in-Charge of respective Correctional Facilities. In this regard, I urge you to wholeheartedly embrace the responsibility and leadership that your roles demand and deserve." the PS implored.
