STATE DEPARTMENT FOR CORRECTIONAL SERVICES TO HONOUR ITS TOP SPORTS PERSONALITIES

The State Department for Correctional Services is planning to establish a Kenya Prisons Service Hall of Fame to honour officers for their excellence and contribution to sports in the country. Speaking during a meeting with the Kenya Prisons Sports Council, Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco said the move would be a befitting recognition for Kenya Prisons Service sportsmen and women who have placed the country in the world map. During the meeting, the PS was updated on the achievements of Kenya Prisons Service sportspersons where the team won 8 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals at the National Athletics Championships that were held at Ulinzi grounds from 25th to 27th June this year. Eight athletes from Kenya Prisons Service were also selected during the world Athletic championships trials held last week and will be among the team that will represent the country in the championships set to be held in Tokyo Japan from 13th -21st September this year. This even as she assured of her support for sportsmen and women from the state department including infrastructure development as well as adequate facilitation of athletes. Among the team that met the Principal Secretary included Catherine Ndereba, a former marathon world champion, and now Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons and Sports coordinator at the Kenya Prisons Sports Council, Prison Staff Training College Commandant SACGP Angus Masoro ndc(k) and Director welfare and sports SACGP Susan Majere.
