The State Department for Correctional Services on Thursday held a ceremony to honour some of its senior retiring officers, with Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco describing their service to the department as a true testament of commitment to serving the nation.
Speaking at a city hotel during celebrations to honour senior officers who recently exited service, the PS said their efforts helped build institutional memory, practical wisdom, and a legacy for posterity.
“Public Service is not a walk in the park; it demands discipline, patience, consistency, and an unwavering sense of patriotism. Without doubt, you all epitomized these values, serving diligently, upholding standards, and advancing our mandate,” said the PS.
She said the occasion allowed those in active service to reflect on their intricate journeys in the call to strengthen correctional institutions and support Kenya's growth and development.
While echoing the sentiments of the PS, Secretary Administration Sammy Kioko, said the efforts of the officers have helped shape and strengthen the foundation upon which the State Department for Correctional Services continues to grow and improve.
Speaking at the same ceremony, Probation and Aftercare Service Acting Secretary Shadrack Kavutai said the event was a celebration of the milestones realized in the country’s correctional system over the years.
While thanking the department for recognizing her efforts, former Probation and Aftercare Service Secretary Dr. Christine Obondi said the gesture was as gratifying as it was fulfilling.
Speaking on behalf of other retirees, Obondi thanked the Principal Secretary for her support in revolutionizing correctional services in the country. She took the chance to document her journey in public service after serving the government for the last 35 years.
Other officers who were honoured during the ceremony included former Head of Supply Chain Management George Mwaura, former Head of Accounts Johnson Njuguna, and former Secretary Administration Peter Wanjohi.
