WANINI KERERI MAGEREZA LEVEL 4 HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT BOARD HOLDS INAUGURAL MEETING

By Nicholas Kigondu

The State Department for Correctional Services has embarked on improving systems at the Wanini Kereri Magereza Level 4 Hospital to ensure the facility delivers safe, efficient and sustainable care.

Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the Wanini Kereri Magereza Level 4 Hospital management Board, Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco said the department remains committed to transforming the facility into a centre of excellence in Medicare.

She said the department is progressively addressing issues across finance, operations, staffing, and regulations as it moves to fully operationalize all services and units within the facility.

The ultra-modern 150-bed medical facility located at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru was officially commissioned in August by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki before its operationalization in September to offer various services.

The facility is currently offering medical services to Kenya Prisons Service officers, their families, inmates, and the surrounding local community. Services offered include outpatient care, emergency services, dental and renal services, diagnostics, pharmacy, medical laboratory and the management of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

The meeting was also attended by Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh.
